Research projects and new developments

Openmind

As part of the European funding project OPENMIND (On-demand production of entirely customised minimally invasive medical devices), Tamponcolor developed and built a pad printing system solution which enables it to apply high-precision 360° all-round printing onto consistently supported continuous and roll-to-roll material.

The customer is able to choose the quantity of and spacing between the labelling.

Possible uses include, for example, catheter production, special manufacturing, tubing production, etc.

Chemnitz University of Technology

The in-line printing of plastic components during injection moulding was developed together with the plastics professorship at Chemnitz University of Technology. This new process combines injection moulding and the previously separate process of surface decoration into one hybrid process. The aims of process development are increased efficiency in production and improved adhesiveness of decorations.

As part of the project, the project partners have succeeded in developing a fully-automated pad printing system which is assembled as an additional unit on the injection moulding machine and which can synchronise with the injection moulding cycle.
